About T-Bird's Book
The Adventures of T-bird the Tiny Titan is a short, fictionalized biographical manuscript, written to celebrate the life of fearless, feisty, and joyful Thea Kathleen Roelofsen. Originally written and beautifully told by Thea’s school principal as the eulogy at her Celebration of Life, this powerful experience helped children and parents, friends and family make sense of how a vibrant young member of their community could be taken away. Dr. Appelt’s sincere intention was that her message would soothe her grieving community of young students, provide a gift to the Roelofsen family, and allow all who heard her words to comprehend Thea’s passing in a new way.

Dr. Appelt received a cascade of requests to publish Thea’s eulogy, so that others who have felt the impact of a cancer diagnosis could read and experience the story as a healing tool. Adults describe the story as having a magical ability to give “wings to their heavy sadness and despair.” Children share that the story addresses the concept of dying in a way that turns their fear and confusion into compassionate action. We hope this book will inspire one and all to live with love, courage, strength, and positivity during impossible circumstances, while providing an ongoing memorial to a young girl whose light and life touched so many.
